0830 - Coy. entrained Pezzigaux Station.

 

1000 - Train leaves station.  Training programme continues for isolated personnel left behind at Rola.

 

2nd July 1943

0930 - Train arrives Algiers Area.

 

2240 - Arrive Beni Mancour.  1 Dvr of rear party admitted to 21 Gen. Hosp. Bou [Harifia?].  Issue of last supplies by Comp. Pl. at B.B.P. Froha - Supply Point closed - All stores P.O.L. returned to No.2 M.B.S.D. Pezzigaux.

 

3rd July 1943

0820 - Train arrives Setif.  1900 hrs. train arrives Kroubs.  1 S/Sgt of Comp. Pl. (left behind at Rola) admitted 21 Gen. Hospital.  Comp. Pln. take over tpt for all details.

 

4th July 1943

Place: Field

 

0100 - Train arrives [Enelana?].  Capt. Ca[?]ws attached to H.Q. RASC. 1 Airborne Division visits rear party at Froha from Sousse.  Remains overnight.

 

5th July 1943

Place: Sousse Area

 

1330 - Main rail party detrain Tunis.  Conveyed in lorries to new Sousse Area location arriving 2230 hrs.  1 Sgt admitted to 1 C.C.S. Tunis (Sunstroke).

 

6th July 1943

Place: Sousse Area

 

Erection of tentage and interior economy in new camp site.  Rear Party at Froha receive warning order for move.  O.C. to H.Q. RASC.

 

1440 - Fire breaks out in close proximity to Ammunition Dump held by 93 Airborne Div. Comp. Coy. R.A.S.C.  All available personnel on scene of fire within 3 minutes.  All unit vehicles and equipment evacuated under instructions from Capt. F.A. Woodward and remain at a safe distance away until 1700 hrs. when fire subsides.

 

7th July 1943

Place: Sousse Area

 

Interior Economy.  Bathing Parade to Sousse Area afternoon.  Pit dug and 6.000 Galls. reserve water put into containers and stored.  20 x 3 ton vehicles temporarily held by 250 Coy. RASC. handed over to unit charge.

 

8th July 1943

Place: Sousse Area

 

1600 - 2 offrs & 61 O/R's. of Composite Pln. (incl. attached personnel of R.D.I. Pln.) arrive by road from Froha.  B.B.P. established 200 yards from unit location on Sousse - Kairouan road.  Supplies urgently required for operations.  Message received to expedite 400 Panniers for operations same day.  O.C. to CRASC Conference 1730 hrs.  1 Dvr. admitted to 21 Gen. Hospital Bou [Harifia?].

 

9th July 1943

Company assumes responsibility for Green Dump (British Airborne Supplies), Red Dump (British Non-Airborne units), Blue Dump (Complete Airborne Supplies).  O.C. to CRASC Conference 1730 hrs.

 

10th July 1943

Panniers and Containers delivered to schedule to pre-packed Panniers dump.  Awaiting further instructions with stand-by crews.

 

11th July 1943

RASC location commences.  25 O/R's attend morning & afternoon periods.  Rear Party entrain Pezzigaux Station departing 1530 hrs.  42 Coy. vehicles taken back on charge from 250 Airborne Div'l Lt. Composite Coy. RASC.

Hospital.  Audit Board assembled for purpose of examining P.R.I. offrs & Sgts' Mess Accounts.

 

19th July 1943

48 vehicles report 4th Para. Bde. for purpose of conveying personnel of Para Bde HQ. & 156 Bn. to Strip "R" on Exercise - return 2200 hrs.  1 Humber 4x4 Utility taken on charge from No.2 S.O.D. Airborne Division.

 

20th July 1943

48 vehicles report to Point P0433 on road Kairouan - El [Guern?] (Map 1:200,000 Sheet 11) at 1200 hrs. to convey 4 Para. Bde. personnel from Exercise.  8 vehicles convey 1 Para Sqn R.E. personnel to Hammamat.

 

1800 - Rear Party from Froha arrive location.

 

1945 - O.C.'s. Conference of all officers.  Capt. Foster to CRASC interview.  1 Dvr. admitted 98 Gen. Hospital.  19 M/c's. taken on charge from A.D.O.S. 1 Airborne Div.

 

21st July 1943

0900 - 12 vehicles 'A' Pln. report Sidi El [?] Station for purpose of conveying 224 O/R's. Air Landing Bde. and 1 Para Bde. arriving by train from Sicily back to their locations.  1 x 15 cwt. taken on charge from ADOS. 1 Airb. Div.

 

1330 - 10 vehicles convey  156 Bn. (4 Para. Bde.) personnel to Bathing Parade Sousse Area.

 

1430 - 50% of unit personnel to Bathing Parade.

 

22nd July 1943

0845 - 10 officers and 300 O/R's. leave location for inspection and lecture by the G.O.C. Maj.Gen. Hopkinson.

 

1400 - 43 vehicles report to 10th Bn. (4 Para Bde) conveying tps to Strip "R" for Exercise.  10 vehicles to 156 Bn. location to convey personnel to Sousse for bathing.  1 Driver admitted No.18 C.C.S. Sousse Area.  32 vehicles taken back on charge from 250 Lt. Coy. RASC.

 

23rd July 1943

0800 - 18 vehicles collect ammunition from 21 A.A.D. and deliver to units of 1 Airborne Division to complete their G.1098 scale.

 

1200 - 43 vehicles report Point P0433 Kairouan - El [Guern?] road for purpose of conveying tps. of 10 Bn (4 Para. Bde) back to location from Exercise.

 

24th July 1943

0800 - 15 vehicles collect ammunition from 21 A.A.D. and deliver to units of Airborne Division.  8 vehicles to 1st. Para Sqn. R.E. for troop carrying - return 1700 hrs.

 

25th July 1943

0800 - 16 vehicles collect ammunition (for training purposes) from 21 A.A.D. and deliver to units.  Capt. D.G. Foster proceeds on Short Parachute Jumping Course.  1 Driver admitted 18 C.C.S. Sousse Area (acute appendicitis).  1 Dvr. discharged 18 C.C.S.

 

26th July 1943

0700 - Capt J. Ackroyd and 10 N.C.O's report to "F" Strip for instruction in Container Loading into Aircraft.

 

0800 - Lt. M. Armstrong leaves location with 17 vehicles for Div'l Rest Camp at Hammamat conveying personnel of 1 Para Bde.  5 vehicles report 5th Bn. (2 Para Bde) for detachment.  1 x 3 tonner evacuated to 46 Inf. Tps. [?].

 

27th July 1943

Place: Sousse Area

 

0700 - 2 offrs & 85 O/R's leave location for Rifle and Bren Guns firing on Sousse Area Range.  Return to Camp 1730 hrs.

 

1300 - 10 vehicles report 156 Bn (4 Para Bde) to convey tps. to Sousse for bathing.

 

1700 - Court of Inquiry assembled to enquire into the circumstances whereby T/279941 Dvr. [Worth?] A. became wounded by revolver shot fired by T/19685855 Dvr. Hodgkinson B.H.

 

28th July 1943

Coy Breakdown Lorry taken back on units' charge from 250 Lt Coy.

 

1300 - 10 vehicles report 156 Bn (4 Para Bde.) to convey personnel to Sousse for bathing.

0900 - O.C. 4 officers and 17 O/R's leave location for visit to "F" Strip to view loading of panniers for supply by air.

 

1300 - 10 vehicles report 156 Bn. (4 Para. Bde.) conveying tps. for bathing at Sousse.

 

1700 - Lt. M. Armstrong returns with 17 vehicles from Div'l Rest Camp at Hammamat.

 

1800 - 5 vehicles return from detachment with 5 Bn (2 Para Bde).

 

31st July 1943

0830 - O.C. & 2 offrs to "F" Strip to attend demonstration - Loading of Supplies into aircraft & dropping of panniers on Supply Dropping Point.

 

1100 - 2 vehicles report 9 Fd. Coy. R.E. to pick up troops and convey them to Div'l Rest Camp at Hammamat.

 

1300 - 10 vehicles to 156 Bn. (4 Para. Bde.) to convey personnel to Sousse for bathing.

 

1315 - 11 vehicles utilised for collection of ammunition from 21 A.A.D. and distribution to units.
