4. ESCAPE.

I was in Camp 106/3300 at CASANOVA ELVO near VERCELLI, (ITALY, 1:250,000, Sheet 9, J 5462) when the Italian Armistice was declared. We were forced to remain in the camp, but on 12 Sep we broke out, aided by the civil population. I went to a farm near the village, where I met Pte. HAZELDINE, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Regt. At the end of Sep 43 we moved to another farm near BURONZO (J 5471). From this point our journey to SWITZERLAND was arranged for us.
