Advance continued and all went well until road at 194267 was shelled from the EAST side of the bridge. Doubt arose as to origin of fire. Est that it was enemy and therefore fears arose as to fate of recce force. Under gun fire and Besa fire from tanks at 192268 1 Cdn Bn advanced quickly along ditches across the open ground and along the bank of the road to the bridge where under their own smoke they crossed just in time to see the Panther pull out with three other tanks. The recce carriers were found, some untouched others blown up, crews were seen to come from neighbouring woods, 10 were missing and presumed PW. Recce sustained no other casualties. Having fought two battles and taken two objectives the bridge was handed over to the American Cavalry Corps who had lost 1 tank destroyed and 1 or 2 other vehs due to shelling during take-over.
