Corporal Elliot landed East of the Rhine with his line detachment on the 24th March 1945. From that date he and his detachment have been constantly in action. Whenever there has been an awkward or dangerous line to lay or maintain, invariably it has been he and his detachment that have volunteered, invariably the work has been successfully accomplished. Corporal Elliot's high technical skill, unending cheerfulness, courage and initiative have made his detachment unequalled by any other. On three separate occasions his detachment of two or three men has been attacked or sniped when working alone. On each occasion Corporal Elliot has seized the initiative and caused loss to the enemy, before returning to complete his work on the lines. Throughout the advance across Germany, Corporal Elliot's leadership, skill and personal courage have been of the very highest order and a constant example to the men of his detachment and section.
