The Commander in Chief's Certificate is not an award as such because there is no medal to signify it, nor are the persons to whom it is given mentioned in the London Gazette. In most cases they were awarded as a consolation prize to persons who were nominated for a higher award but were unsuccessful in their claim. To date, only the C-in-C's for the 12th Battalion The Devonshire Regiment have been obtained.
