Lance-Sergeant Alfred Price
Unit : 53rd (Worcestershire Yeomanry) Airlanding Light Regiment, RA
Army No. : 903020
Awards : Military Medal
Lance-Sergeant Price came by glider on the airborne operation for the crossing of the Rhine on 24th March 1945.
Immediately on landing the glider came under direct fire from mortars and small arms. The fire was so intense that the passengers were grounded. Lance-Sergeant Price however jumped out of the nose and, disregarding the enemy fire, climbed into the back and began undoing the lashings. Meanwhile bullets were passing through the glider but this NCO persevered and had all but freed the Jeep and gun when a mortar bomb hit the glider, smashing the tail and wounding Lance-Sergeant Price.
Lance-Sergeant Price displayed great courage and disregard for danger in this situation, his example having a splendid effect on the remainder of the detachment who eventually got the gun out of the glider and into action.
