A Universal Carrier and men of No.1 Parachute Platoon, 716th Light Composite Company, RASC, passing through Hamminkeln on the way from the landing zone to the Company area on the 24th March 1945. The driver, Lieutenant John Roberts, cannot be seen, but standing at the far left is Sergeant "Skinny" Crossman, and in the carrier, directly above its number, "looking warily to his left-side handling his trusty Bren" is Sergeant Ted Moxon. The carrier was flown in on glider No.271, which was hit by flak and broke up on landing, causing no harm to the passengers but the vehicle itself was a little damaged; Roberts says of this photograph "at this crossroad we had great difficulty in turning the Carrier as the controls had been jolted on landing... "Skinny" Crossman [is] laughing at me." The same group can be seen here. Copyright: Imperial War Museum.
