Lance-Corporal Godfrey Yardley

Lance-Corporal Yardley was a member of No.18 Platoon, "B" Company, 2nd Battalion The Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry, and served with them in the Ardennes (the Platoon then being numbered No.14) and on the Rhine Crossing, where "B" Company carried out a coup-de-main attack on one of the two road bridges around Hamminkeln. As the glider carrying No.18 Platoon approached its landing zone, both pilots were wounded by flak and the glider crashed into nearby woodland.
