Unit : 1st Battalion The Glider Pilot Regiment

Awards : Military Medal

On the night of 9/10th July 1943 Sergeant Moore as first pilot flew a Waco CG4A glider from Sousse to Sicily. The pilot by dint of his flying ability and under great difficulties, landed his glider in the correct place, about [? miles?] south of Syracuse. Before coming to rest the aircraft struck some object on the ground, breaking the nose section. Sergeant Moore was trapped in the damaged glider and had his ankle broken. After being released by his second pilot and not knowing the whereabouts of our own troops, Sergeant Moore led his glider load of troops through the Italian lines and with great difficulty and inspite of his injured leg succeeded in contacting our own forces. During this hazardous undertaking Sergeant Moore behaved with great gallantry, and showed a high sense of duty both to his second pilot and to the other members of his glider load, and complete disregard for his own safety.
