Private Reginald Tyrer
Unit : No.15 Platoon, "C" Company, 2nd Battalion The South Staffordshire Regiment
Army No. : 4460071
Awards : Military Medal
This soldier was Platoon Medical Orderly. During the whole of the action on Waterloo Bridge he attended to a large number of casualties with complete disregard for his own safety.
During the shelling of the Bridge, a pill box in the centre, which was being used as a Platoon Collecting Post, received a direct hit while he was attending to four wounded soldiers. He helped the two walking wounded cases to get out and carried the other two seriously wounded cases himself, alternately carrying each of them over a distance of some 300 yards under heavy machine gun and small arms fire. He then continued to administer first aid to these and other wounded men.
Without any doubt this soldier saved the lives of many of his comrades. His complete disregard of his own safety was an inspiration to all who saw him while his courage and resource was beyond all praise.
