Lieutenant-Colonel Percival Ross Wheatley

Unit : 16 Parachute Field Ambulance

Army No. : 52033

Awards : Distinguished Service Order

Lieutenant-Colonel Wheatley dropped by parachute at Catania on the night 13/14th July in command of the Ambulance attached to the 1st Parachute Brigade. Although injured by his drop, he organised the collection of wounded and opened a dressing station on the battlefield itself. Under fire, sometimes from both sides, and on one occasion over-run by the enemy, this dressing station successfully dealt with over a hundred British and Italian casualties.
