Lance-Corporal George Pratt
Unit : No.15 Platoon, "C" Company, 2nd Battalion The South Staffordshire Regiment
Army No. : 4925795
Awards : Military Medal
This N.C.O. led one of the two sections which attacked Waterloo Bridge. He brought his section through heavy enemy fire to his objective, consolidated and held it. The enemy counter attacked him with twelve men in a lorry which he set on fire with a grenade. His section then destroyed all the enemy. By stopping this attack Lance-Corporal Pratt enabled his platoon commander to remove the demolition charges from the bridge.
He then carried out with one man a thorough search of nearby buildings and brought back valuable information. With his section he held the forward end of the bridge until daylight in the face of heavy fire.
Through the whole of the action this N.C.O. inspired his men through his own dauntless example.
