For gallantry, initiative and devotion to duty, on the night 13/14th July 1943. This Private soldier was immediately captured on landing by parachute South of Catania in Sicily. He was disarmed and his equipment removed. He escaped at the first opportunity rearmed himself with enemy weapons and equipment and rejoined the Battalion. He arrived in time to take part in the assault on the objective. During this his high spirits and enthusiasm were an inspiration to his comrades. Later when the enemy counter attacked the positions, again he was conspicuous for his resolution and contempt for danger. Even after being wounded he held his position until ordered back to the Regimental Aid Post.
