Private Dennis Aisne Bettle
Unit : 2nd Parachute Battalion
Army No. : 5884314
Awards : Military Medal
On the night of 13/14th July 1943 this soldier took part in a parachute operation South of Catania in Sicily. During the attack he showed great courage and contempt for danger in always being in the forefront using his Bren Gun from the hip. He was personally responsible for inflicting many casualties on the enemy. During the defence of the objective on the following day he maintained his Bren Gun in action in the most forward position. Throughout the day he continued to show complete disregard for personal safety, and his steadiness under fire was a great example to all ranks in his vicinity.
