During the action on Waterloo Bridge, Private Weate was acting as Medical Orderly. He went out many times under machine gun, shell and mortar fire to bring in wounded men. On one occasion Private Weate succeeded in getting wounded men out of a pill box on the Bridge under heavy fire from fixed lines. Later he continued his gallant action on the banks of the river under heavy machine gun fire. By his gallantry there is no doubt that this man saved the lives of several wounded men and his bravery was an inspiration to all who fought on the Bridge.
