Certificates awarded to Pieter Gabriel Jordaan (left in photograph, taken in North Africa), winner of Shot Put, Javelin and Discus events during games held at Stalag VIIIA. Originally of the South African Police, he joined the Army and was taken prisoner in North Africa. At Stalag VIIIA, presumably in one of its work camps, he was put to work cleaning the insides of boilers, which he and others had to enter whilst they were still hot. It was cramped and noisy work, which affected his hearing. He was once stabbed in the stomach by a German guard but recovered. He returned to the South African Police after the war.
