Prisoner of War Questionnaires

The following information has been taken from questionnaires completed by liberated Prisoners of War. The collection is held by the National Archives, catalogue reference WO 344, and it can be viewed on the Ancestry website, https://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/collections/62114/

169729 Trooper Albert Wetherick Adams

        Unit: 4th Armoured Car Regiment, South African Tank Corps, attached 7th Armoured Division.

        Camp: Suani Ben Adam near Tripoli (June to November 1942), Stalag XIIIC (March to 10th April 1945)

        Illnesses: Dysentery. Duration: Three months.

        Interrogation: Was asked to speak into Dictaphone at TIMIMI just after capture to say that I had seen Gen Rommel in the front line. I refused to do so.

        Escape: Escaped from "Palm Grove" Camp Benghazi in June 1942 by cutting thro' wire at night. Staff/Sgt Laurie, Tpr Palmer (S. Africans) and 2 other English fellows. All recaptured by Italians.

        Sabotage: Cut German field telephone line when getting through German lines 4th April 1945.
