Prisoner of War Questionnaires

 

The following information has been taken from questionnaires completed by liberated Prisoners of War. The collection is held by the National Archives, catalogue reference WO 344, and it can be viewed on the Ancestry website, https://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/collections/62114/

 

15891 Sapper Angelo Abroue

        Unit: 10th Field Company, Engineers, South Africa.

        Captured: Tobruk.

        Camps: Tarhuna, Tripoli (28th June to 6th December 1942), P.G. 54 (31st January to 8th September 1943), Stalag XIA (March to August 1944).

        Work Camps: Aschesleben (Labouring, August 1944 to 10th April 1945).

        Escapes: Myself and Sapper Cooper also 10th Field Engineers escaped off train at Florence on 7th Oct 1944 [presumably this should be 1943]. Left Cooper in Roma with bad knee, I was captured again at Cassino 6th February 1944. German troops.
