British Prisoners of War in Auschwitz Concentration Camp. The men, all privates, were not kept in the main camp with the Jews and other "undesirables", rather they worked in the IG Farben rubber factory in the same complex. Although the full horror of the Nazi regime was not inflicted upon them, they nevertheless witnessed it in the treatment of others in the camp. This photograph was taken by a German guard in exchange for cigarettes from the prisoners. George Duffree is sitting on the extreme right hand side of the front row.
