Prisoner of War Questionnaires

The following information has been taken from questionnaires completed by liberated Prisoners of War. The collection is held by the National Archives, catalogue reference WO 344, and it can be viewed on the Ancestry website, https://www.ancestry.co.uk/search/collections/62114/

J13840 Flight Lieutenant John Sidney Acheson

        Unit: 408 Squadron, RCAF.

        Captured: Near Flensburg, 30th March 1943.

        Camps: Stalag Luft III, Sagan (12th April 1943 to 28th January 1945), Stalag Luft III, Tarmstedt (5th February 1945 to 10th April 1945).

        Interrogation: At Dulag Luft (near Frankfurt-on-Main) April 1st to 9th 43. Solitary confinement with hot & cold treatment before each interrogation.

        Escapes: Worked on tunnels at Stalag Luft III Sagan. Was not personally successful.

1483596 Flight Sergeant Alan Enoch Adams (see also Stalag IVB)

        Unit: 102 Squadron, Bomber Command, RAF

        Camp: Dulag Luft, Frankfurt, 20th to 28th December 1943

        Interrogation: Yes at Frankfurt, was treated badly, head banged against wall, & threatened imprisonment in small cell where I was kept 5/6 days, also tried to catch me by showing recognition articles of other members of my crew.

402335 Warrant Officer Denis Gordon Adams

        Unit: 18 Squadron, Bomber Command, Royal Air Force.

        Captured: Stomer, 4th September 1941. Were you wounded when captured? Yes.

        Camps: Dulag Luft (9th to 18th September 1941), Stalag VIIIB (20th September 1941 to 12th May 1942), Stalag Luft III (17th May 1942 to 16th July 1943), Stalag Luft VI (18th July 1943 to 16th August 1944), Stalag 357 (17th August 1944 to 8th April 1945).

        Interrogation: Yes. At Dulag Luft attempts were made to get fake Red Cross forms filled in. I had been warned against these prior to capture.
