Sergeant Walter Booth

Unit : 195th Airlanding Field Ambulance, RAMC

Army No. : 7357269

Awards : George Medal

At Tourmauville, on the 7th August 1944, there was a large explosion, involving the ammunition of two lorries. At considerable personal risk, Sergeant Booth went among the exploding ammunition about 4 yards from the vehicle, where he stayed to treat and then carried away a badly wounded soldier. He later returned to make sure that the others (there were sixteen in all) were in fact dead. This N.C.O. undoubtedly saved one life and was a shining example of bravery and devotion to duty in particularly dangerous circumstances.
