Company Quartermaster Sergeant Leonard Arthur Graham
Unit : "B" Company, 9th Parachute Battalion
Service No. : 6398348
Awards : Military Medal
On the 9th June 1944, whilst holding a vital piece of high ground, the Battalion was attacked in strength. CQMS Graham was in charge of a machine gun post and was wounded shortly after the attack commenced. Although knocked into a ditch he crawled back and continued to fire the gun. A few minutes later he was wounded again, and again knocked into the ditch. Once again he crawled back to the gun and continued to fire it. A short time later he was wounded yet a third time and collapsed while attempting to reach the gun again. His determination to stick to his post and his complete disregard of his own wounds set an example to the remainder of the men worthy of the best traditions of the army.
