Sergeant Milburn was in charge of a forward position in front of his Company. When attacked by two Platoons of German infantry supported by three Self-Propelled Guns he held his fire and controlled his section until he was able to engage the enemy at point blank range. Afterwards he led an assault on one of the Self-Propelled Guns under heavy fire from the other two.
This NCO's courage and leadership were of the highest order and contributed to the success of the airborne operation on the 6th June 1944.
