Private Bernard Batho
Unit : 13th Parachute Battalion
Army No. : 1445959
Awards : Military Medal
On Wednesday 23rd August, while engaged in an attack in Pont L'Eveque, two men of Private Batho's section were wounded and were seen lying in the open in bullet swept ground. Private Batho at once went forward alone with his Bren gun firing from the hip, so as to keep down the enemy's fire. He succeeded in carrying both men to safety, one at a time and in spite of extremely heavy enemy fire directed at him. He rejoined his section with his Bren still in action and was an inspiration to his comrades at a most difficult and dangerous time.
