Major Alfred Reeves Clark
Unit : "C" Company, 13th Parachute Battalion
Army No. : 162409
Awards : Military Cross
By Wednesday August 23rd, "C" Company, commanded by Major Clark was the Reserve Company of the Battalion which was engaged in attacking strongly positioned and reinforced enemy troops in Pont L'Eveque. His Company area was subjected to continual heavy enemy fire and was, furthermore, seriously on fire in many places. Throughout the action Major Clark moved about among his men, imperturbable and encouraging them by his splendid leadership.
Eventually the battalion was ordered to withdraw and Major Clark's company was the rearguard. During this withdrawal, Major Clark showed the most splendid possible leadership and coolness under intense enemy fire. Finally he was the last to cross the river, covering the crossing standing in the middle of the river while the last man crossed, laughing and using his automatic.
Throughout Major Clark's conduct has been beyond praise and in the finest traditions of the Parachute Regiment.
