Private Albert Lewis
Unit : "A" Company, 8th Parachute Battalion
Service No. : 14605780
Awards : Military Medal
For courage and devotion to duty. At Le Mesnil on the 16th June, Private Lewis received a bad wound on his leg. At this time the Company was being heavily attacked by the enemy. Private Lewis after being attended to by the medical orderly insisted on being carried to a shallow weapon pit saying that provided he could lie down he could fire his weapon. He was put in position and at one period the enemy were within a few hundred yards of his position but he remained firing his rifle until four hours later when he was evacuated. Private Lewis' courage and example were an inspiration to all those who were fighting near him.
