Lieutenant Norman William Reid

 

Lieutenant Norman William "Gunner" Reid, 286th (Airborne) Field Park Company, RE, commanded the detachment which landed on LZ-N at 03:20 on the 6th June 1944, with the task of using bulldozers to clear landing strips for the Second Lift on the evening of D-Day. He was killed by enemy fire shortly after landing on the zone, the first Royal Engineers officer of the Division to be killed during the invasion. He was 27. Copyright: Christine Hanslip.
