Corporal George Moodie

 

 

Corporal George Moodie of No.12 Platoon, "C" Company, 9th Parachute Battalion. He participated in the attack on the Merville Battery as a member of Lieutenant Jefferson's group, and continued to serve in the Parachute Regiment until 1966. He lived in Fife in his native Scotland, and four of his sons also became Paras. Moodie passed away on the 25th January 2012. On the 6th June of that year, his granddaughter, Isobel Roberts, parachuted into France from a C-47, carrying his ashes which were taken to the Battery and scattered outside No.1 Casemate.
