Sapper Arthur Ernest Denmark

Unit : 260th Field Company, 43rd (Wessex) Division

Army No. : 2093263

Awards : Military Medal

On the night of 25th-26th September 1944, Sapper Denmark's company evacuated the Airborne Division across the Neder Rijn near Driel. Sapper Denmark worked throughout the night without any relief and made over twenty trips across the river in assault boats. Sapper Denmark's outstanding work and leadership carried out under shell and small arms fire and his devotion to duty was an inspiration and enabled a large number of airborne troops to be brought safely back. I recommend him for the immediate award of the Military Medal.
