Captain Angus Feredith Webster Low

Unit : No.20 Flight, "B" Squadron, No.1 Wing, The Glider Pilot Regiment

Army No. : 180708

Awards : Mentioned in Despatches

Captain Low was wounded at Oosterbeek, Holland, on 21st September 1944. Three days later, whilst still in the care of an ambulance unit he was taken prisoner.

Entrained for transfer to Germany on 26th September 1944, he and another officer unfastened one of the ventilator shutters, climbed on to the buffers and jumped on to the track. As both officers were very weak, they made their way slowly over a period of 2 days to Olst.

To secure medical attention for their wounds, the two escapers approached a farmhouse and were well received. Eventually, after many disappointments, Captain Low was safely conducted to Allied forces near Niewemerwede on 10th March 1945.
