The Memorial Font at Oosterbeek Church. The following text with the top-most photograph appeared in The Monumental Journal, in November 1950. "A Memorial Font of Portland Stone and a Communion Table of English oak, gift of the Airborne Forces to Oosterbeek Church, Holland, were flown to Amsterdam by K.L.M. freighter. The consignment weighed over 8 cwts. Bearing the badges of the Airborne Forces, carved in relief and decorated in proper colours, these memorials were dedicated by Lt. Col. C.F.H. Gough, M.C., during the annual Airborne Pilgrimage to the district of Arnhem. On the top of the Communion Table is a deeply incised inscription reading: "Presented by all ranks of the 1st British Airborne Division and the 1st Polish Independent Parachute Brigade Group in memory of their action at Arnhem and Oosterbeek, 17th to 25th of September, 1944." Both these memorials were designed by Mr. John E.M. MacGregor, F.S.A., F.R.I.B.A., and made by Messrs. Mowbrays Ltd., of London and Oxford." My thanks to Roger Marchant for this information; his father, a master mason, did much of the work on the font.
