Airborne soldiers in the grounds of the Hartenstein Hotel, probably on Saturday 23rd, try in vain to signal resupply aircraft using parachute silk. The densely wooded terrain surrounding Oosterbeek, not to mention the raging fires and smoke, made it almost impossible for pilots to navigate via landmarks. Even if they saw the efforts of these troops they would ignore them as German troops were similarly keen to attract their attention. Copyright: IWM BU1119.
