Lieutenant John Horsley

Lieutenant John Horsley, of the 1st Battalion The Border Regiment, was attached to the 21st Independent Parachute Company for Arnhem as their Intelligence Officer. On the 25th September 1944, he was at the head of the Company's column with Major Wilson as they were making their way to the northern bank of the Rhine to await the withdrawal. They came under fire from two German machine guns; Wilson was only slightly hurt, but Horsley was fatally wounded. He died two days later.
