Sergeant Harold Walter White

 

T/14665666 Sergeant White (first from the left) of 223 Company, RASC. Born in West London in 1908, he was an excellent sportsman with a talent for football, swimming and cricket, in which he was captain of a local first class team. After getting married he worked as a lorry driver at Fred Davis & Son, which was owned by his wife's family. He was called up for military service in 1943, completed his basic training at Canterbury, and then underwent parachute training at RAF Ringway before participating in the Battle of Arnhem as an Air Despatcher. He returned to the family business after the war as a transport manager, but sadly died in 1948, aged 40. Copyright: Tracy Bown.
