Gunner George Durant

George Durant at Oosterbeek Church on the 11th September 1993. He writes: "Early on about day four [three] of the battle, 1944, myself and my co-Wireless Operator parked our jeep just where I'm now standing, to get a radio fix. With no time to dig-in, a sudden heavy and prolonged artillery and mortar barrage opened up during which we were blown in a heap at the foot of the tree. The jeep was full of holes as alas was poor Archie [Gunner. Aubrey Pitt] my oppo. A brief lull enabled me to scramble to a more secure position as the deluge re-started."
