Sergeant Frank Chesson
|
Frank H. Chesson commanded a section of No.4 Platoon, "A" Company, 10th Parachute Battalion. It is believed that he was killed with eight other men when they were ambushed, possibly involving a 20mm gun, near the 6km from Arnhem marker along the Amsterdamseweg on the 19th September 1944. The nine men, although only seven crosses marked their positions, were buried beside the marker before being reinterred in the Airborne Cemetery. Of this party only four, including Chesson, have been identified. The others are Lance-Corporal Walter Secrett, Private Arthur Lishman (both 10th Battalion) and Sergeant Benjamin Huxley ("B" Squadron, The Glider Pilot Regiment). Chesson transferred to the Army Air Corps from the Royal East Kent (The Buffs) Regiment and completed parachute course K22 at RAF Ramat David, in Palestine, in February 1943.
