Staff-Sergeant Harold George Protheroe

Unit : 1st Battalion The Glider Pilot Regiment

Army No. : 5254139

Awards : Distinguished Flying Medal

The above mentioned Staff Sergeant successfully landed his glider in the detailed landing area. He was towed through flak and had to land in the middle of hand to hand fighting. He was carrying a six pounder anti-tank gun and jeep which were successfully unloaded and were able to go into action at the selected area. But for this excellent piloting, the gun would not have supported the First Parachute Brigade.
