The identity card of Private Archibald Mallet of the 2nd Battalion The Gloucestershire Regiment, who was wounded at the time of his capture at Cassel on the 27th May 1940. The prisoner of war questionnaire that he filled in on his return to Britain in 1945 reveals that he was also held in Stalag XXID and VIIIB. At the latter, from September 1944, he worked in a mine at Klausberg. Asked if he participated in acts of sabotage at any time, he stated simply "Breaking Tools". Also mentioned is that he developed rheumatism from damp clothing in 1942. Copyright: Stewart Mallet.
