0400 - HQ REME, consisting of CREME, EME/Tels, Supt. Clk, and 3 Dvrs, embarked in LST at TILBURY.

 

6th June 1944

0140 - Adjt left airfd in Glider.

 

0330 - Adjt landed in France.

 

8th June 1944

0500 - HQ REME, main party, disembarked.  Main party, together with No.1 AWD and 9 Airldg LAD, joined Div in DMA.

 

1830 - EME att Airborne Armd Recce Regt joined HQ REME.

 

10th June 1944

1200 - Enemy attack S of Div HQ.  General "stand-to" in DMA from 18.30 to 22.30.

 

12th June 1944

Decision made to improve trenches and provide cover from anti-personnel shells now being dropped in area.  HQ REME build up completed.

 

16th June 1944

The last of 2 Clks and 2 Dvrs who came by sea with 1 Corps Tps Wksps, joined today.

GENERAL

Shelling and mortaring occurred daily at irregular intervals, especially during the night.  Shelling was particularly severe on the following days:-

19 - Cfn Stasulevich killed in AWD 100 yds away.

20 - Cpl Hall, att 286 Fd Pk Coy RE killed and 3 ORs of 10 Airldg LAD wounded in quarry mile away.

23 - Night.

24 - Night.
