CSM Joseph McParlan

Unit : "A" Company, 13th Parachute Battalion

Army No. : 8649956

Awards : Distinguished Conduct Medal, British Empire Medal

He was dropped in error 10 miles from his drop zone. Unperturbed he collected other men also dropped astray and organised them into an effective fighting force although cut off from all possible help. He carried out raids in the enemy area, captured prisoners while causing great disorganisation.

With complete disregard to his own safety he disguised himself in civilian clothes [and then speaking as though ?] passed through the enemy lines and brought considerable information to his battalion headquarters and organised help for his party.

He returned and directed a raiding party on to enemy armoured fighting vehicles but found that his force had dispersed in his absence. [?] and still in plain clothes he again returned safely through the enemy lines and reported for duty with the battalion.
