Private James Glancey

Unit : "C" Company, 8th Parachute Battalion

Service No. : 14660071

Awards : Military Medal

At Beuzeville on the 26th August. Private Glancey was the Bren Gunner of a platoon which came under very heavy machine gun fire in an exposed position. Private Glancey without orders and showing a complete disregard for his own safety moved into a position where he could engage the enemy. By his action he drew the enemy fire on himself and allowed the platoon to extract itself from a difficult position. Private Glancey was hit in the head and his Light Machine Gun was also hit, but he still continued firing till the platoon had got under cover. By his coolness and bravery and complete disregard for his own safety, he prevented his platoon suffering heavy casualties.
