The Military Medal, instituted in March 1916, was awarded to ranks below a confirmed Warrant Officer for acts of bravery in combat. The medal bears an effigy of the reigning Monarch with the words "For Bravery in the Field" on the reverse. It includes a scroll clasp, and the ribbon is white with deep blue edges and two fine red stripes in the centre.
