SSM William Watt

Unit : "B" Squadron, No.1 Wing, The Glider Pilot Regiment

Army No. : 3246740

Awards : Bronze Star

From September 19th - 25th, during the action at Arnhem, SSM Watt showed great courage and determination at all times. Under extremely heavy shell and mortar fire he displayed great coolness during the whole period, encouraging the men by his gallantry and disregard for his personal safety. On several occasions he evacuated casualties under heavy fire to the Main Dressing Station. Although wounded he continued to perform his duties. By his cheerfulness and encouragement he was a great inspiration to the men in his section under very harassing conditions and was instrumental in maintaining intact his sector of the perimeter.

SSM Watt was killed in action during the Rhine Crossing on the 24th March 1945.
