1. Enemy

As given orally.

 

2. 133 Para Field Ambulance under command 4 Para Bde.  Bde Gp composition normal.  No evacuation until D + 3.

 

3. Intention

To treat and hold and later evacuate sick and wounded from the 4 Para Bde.

 

4. Method

(a) 133 Para Field Ambulance will drop with 4 Para Bde on D + 1 in the Div second lift.

(b) It moves within the Bde about 7 miles to its allocated sector where a D.S. will be established in the Municipal Hospital (746797).

 

5. Phases

The operation will be in two phases.

Phase I.  Reorganisation of the Bde Gp on ground and move to def. sector.

Phase II.  Occupation of defence sector N of ARNHEM.

8. 7 KOSB will be occupying defensive posns round the D.Z.

 

9. Tasks

(i) D.Z.  Sections will move with Bns and RV at Bn colours as detailed by Bn comds.  HQ RV is at building (? hospital) 631833.  A CCP will be established here by No.1 Surg team.  Sections will establish temporary CCP's at their Bn RV.  If time permits casualties at section CCP's will be evacuated to HQ CCP for evac by HQ.  All casualties collected at HQ CCP will be evacuated to 181 A/L Field Amb D.S. in area WOLFHEZEN (6679).  This D.S. will be open until the afternoon of D + 1.  Two jeeps will report to HQ CCP as soon after landing as possible.  Axis of evac to D.S. at WOLFHEZEN is main road EDE - ARNHEM - Rd junc 676818 - WOLFHEZEN.  'J' Section will form a CCP in area Xroads 672825.

(ii) Approach March.  Sections will move with Bns along Bn routes and thence along Bde axis of advance to defence area shown on maps.  Nests of casualties will be established along the axis and clearly marked by a yellow triangle tied to a rifle stuck in the ground.  If jeeps are available as many casualties as possible will be carried during the approach march.  'J' Section CCP established at Xroads 672825 will remain open until 11 Bn moves.

 

10. Bde. Glider Gp.

(a) L.Z. RV see trace and maps.  This RV will be marked with blue smoke.

(b) Dispersal point - see trace and maps.

Three modified jeeps less trailers will be sent by CSM Evans to HQ CCP as soon as possible and under orders of O.C. 11 Bn.

 

Phase II

 

11. HQ Field Amb will move into Municipal Hospital 746797.  Sections will join HQ when recalled by O.C. Field Amb.

17. Liaison Officers

Capt Noble will report to B.R.L. at 635838 at P + 45'.

 

18. Recognition

(a) Ground to Air.  Yellow smoke, flares, yellow celanese triangles and yellow fluorescent panels, if available.  Fwd tps ONLY will indicate their posns thus, unless for some special reason such as imminent attack by own aircraft.  All other tps will make their posns known to our a/c by any other means available.

(b) Ground to Ground.  Yellow celanese triangles.

(c) Civilians.  Friendly Dutch civilians properly enrolled for labour through the Civil Affairs Mission will be issued with blue and white armbands.
