Throughout the Airborne operation at Arnhem, 17th/25th September 1944, this NCO displayed great powers of command and an undisputed example of leadership and devotion of duty.

On September 20th many of our own troops were wounded by fire on a very open stretch of ground. In quick succession an officer and two other ranks were killed in attempting to reach and bring in the wounded men. This was observed by Sergeant Robus who nevertheless without hesitation went out alone under a hail of fire and succeeded in bringing in three wounded men, in all probability saving their lives.

His coolness and complete disregard for his life in this bullet swept country was an inspiration to his whole platoon and undoubtedly permanently boosted their fighting spirit until the close of the operation. He was wounded on September 25th.
