Looking west along the Utrechtseweg with the position of the former Hotel Schoonoord main dressing station visible as the large brown building to the right. The buildings to the left, together with several along the Annastraat, down the extreme left, were occupied by the 10th Parachute Battalion on Wednesday 20th September and were held until they were effectively overrun during the following afternoon. The 21st Independent Parachute Company placed its No.3 Platoon in this exposed outpost, much against the wishes of their commander, Major Wilson, but Brigadier Hackett insisted as it was obviously desirable to keep the dressing stations off the front line. Several hours later the Platoon was heavily attacked and Wilson, to Hackett's annoyance, withdrew them from the now barely defensible position. Copyright: Geert Boogaard.
