The remains of the Van Limburg Stirum School which, overlooking the eastern sector of the bridge, was a position of pivotal importance. It was, as such, fiercely defended by elements of the 1st Parachute Squadron and 3rd Parachute Battalion until Wednesday 20th September when, with the building burning fiercely, the British were forced to abandon it and surrender. The School as it stood before the battle can be seen here.
