Thompson (second left) helping to unload HQ Royal Artillery's equipment from a damaged Horsa glider on LZ-Z. The Horsa in question had its wing-tip torn off when it collided with the neighbouring glider moments before landing: these were the first two gliders to land at Arnhem. Left to right is: Des Wiggins, "Sheriff" Thompson, Sergeant Ken Brown (second pilot of the Horsa), Signalman James Gault (Died of Wounds 02/10/44), and Captain Norman Hardie (KIA 20/09/44).
